What is Consumer Directed Services?

• Consumer-directed services (CDS), although similar in nature to in-home services, are provided to persons with a physical disability and do not include any task performed by a licensed professional.
• A participant of CDS must be able to direct the care planning process and hire an attendant. In general, CDS consists of personal care (bathing, cleaning, and meal preparation).
• Family members can be hired to provide care. An exception are spouses and legal guardians.
